Vintage Zenith XL Tronic watch with tuning fork ESA 9162 movement. In full working order and keeping very good time. Overall in good condition but there are. Signs of wear to watch case commensurate with its age.

Case Diameter: 36mm (without crown), 38mm with (crown) Lug to Lug: 40mm, Lug width 19mm, height: 11mm. This watch is mostly likely from the 1970s and marks a transitional period in watch making before full the industry wide adoption of quartz and the phasing out of tuning fork movements. Inside it has a Zenith branded ESA 9162 tuning fork movement (cal 50.0) and is powered by a battery, which is simple to replace. Due to the high frequency of the movement (300Hz) the second hand glides continuously unlike ticking action of quartz or mechanical watches. Another another feature of the tuning fork movement is a faint high pitch sound when the watch is held close to the ear. The sound is inaudible during normal wear. Being an electronic tuning fork movement, the watch is accurate and keeping very good time. The movement itself is very clean, with striped finishing and shows minimal wear. The date change works smoothly in both directions (advance & reverse) as it should when the crown is pulled out in the first position. The second position stops the second hand and allows the time to be adjusted.

The barrel shaped case has not been polished and retains its original sharp lines. On the top there is the original circular matt finish while the sides and underneath of the case have a polished finish. There are fine scratches to the top and sides, as well as to the bezel which I have tried to show as clearly in the photos from each angle. The crystal is clear and unscratched. The crown has the Zenith logo engraved.

The dial itself is silver in colour and is unblemished as are the hands and applied hour markers. The watch wears larger than its stated case dimensions due to its barrel shaped case.

It comes on a recently fitted new ostrich style leather strap which is very padded yet supple. There are no box or papers associated with the watch.
