The Dawes Super Galaxy has always been known as arguably the best touring bike of its generation and with Reynolds 531 frame and forks it is a lightweight and very comfortable bike. As a 17 year old the bike I always wanted was a Dawes Super Galaxy and it took me over 30 years to get one. I got my first one with the intention of riding Velo Retro and Eroica Britannia, I did do Velo Retro last year and the bike was superb and comfortably got me round 85KM in the Lake District albeit slightly too big. I then bought this particular bike which was almost identical other than being a 22.5 frame.
This is in very good and original condition for a 30+ year old bike. I believe it was manufactured in c, 1986 and therefore qualifies for Eroica and whilst it has the odd scratch and spot of surface rust it is generally in excellent condition for a 32 year old bike. The frame and forks are Reynolds 531 and everything works as it should, the gears change smoothly and the brakes are in good working order, you could easily use this as an everyday bike, for touring or just for vintage bike events.
It has the big advantage of a triple crankset, the gears are Shimano and it has a Stronglight crankset. It has the original front mudguard although the rear was damaged, I was looking out for a matching replacement which are usually freely available but of course not when I needed one! I have fitted a mudguard that I had previously had on our tandem hence it has a couple of cutouts (see photographs) and I will include the matching front mudguard so you can have a matching set. 1986 Dawes Super Galaxy, in nice condition.
