Up for sale is a much sought after 1998 Bianchi Marcatone Uno Mega Pro frameset consisting of a steel frame and a full carbon fork mated together through a Campagnolo Record headset. This frame is the steel version of the one Pantani rode on his legenderay victories on the Giro d'Italia and Tour de France in 1998 - remember the mythical ascent of Alpe d'Huez? In 1998 aluminium was the material of choice to make a light frame - and Pantani was a notable user of such frames. However not everyone enjoyed that material - including in the peloton. Many professional riders sticked to steel frames for a certain period of time - until carbon frames reached a level of reliability and efficiency that could outperform their metal counterparts. For a few years frame manufacturers provided lightweight steel frames - until the advent of high performance carbon frame. And this is one of those light steel frames from the second half of the 90s. Another element worth mentionning is the carbon fork. It's one of the very first full carbon forks - including a 1 carbon steerer, and it is therefore very light. This frameset is in very good condition and would even be regarded as mint were it not for a couple of small paint chips.
Frame size is 55 - with the top tube measuring 54.5cm (c-c). Bottom bracket and rear mech hanger threads are in perfect condition.Bottom bracket dimensions are standard BSA, carbon fork steerer is 1 and seatpost diameter is 27.2mm.
