Omega f300 Seamaster Chronometer 198.0001. From 1970, the first Omega f300 tuning fork model to be produced. And right out of the box, Omega got the styling spot on.

Brushed silver/white dial; polished stainless steel indices, bezel and case; well-sized date window; lumed hour hand, minute hand and non-quarter indices; and a blued second hand. Ahh, the second hand, which mesmerizingly sweeps around the dial.

The watch sits on a brand new reddish brown leather strap that complements the deep red/maroon background behind the Omega logo. I honestly don't know if it gains or losses, all I can say is that I have never had to correct the time.

The watch was serviced in October 2020 by Paul Widham of Electronic Watches, the leading expert in maintaining and servicing turning fork movement watches. Paul swapped out the plastic date wheel - prone to losing teeth and slipping a day - with a metal wheel made especially for him. The watch has a new battery, is sparklingly clean inside and out, but neither the crystal nor case were polished - as they are in good, authentic condition for a fifty-year-old watch. Later versions of this watch have a Seamaster-embossed logo caseback, this early 198.0001 has its original plain caseback. Water resistant to 30 m. 12 Jewel caliber 1250 movement. Case diameter: 36.5 mm. Lug width: 19 mm (new 19 mm strap fitted, but watch happily accepts 20 mm straps too: lug width is probably 19.5 mm in reality). Comes in a brand new, non-original, wood and glass display box. Sit the box and "hummer" on your desk - and you have a mesmerizing second hand, the correct time, and the date...
